Frequently asked questions
Answers about Northopedic’s footwear modifications, prescriptions and working with our team.
Can you modify runners, tennis shoes or dress shoes?
We can do orthopedic modifications to virtually any shoe or boot. We try to match materials and colours as much as possible so the modifications are least noticeable. And of course we work on black shoes too.
Do you make shoes?
We do not make custom shoes or custom orthopedic shoes. If you need custom-made shoes, contact us with your specific needs and we can forward your request to a shoemaker on our list.
Do you make orthotics?
We do not make custom orthotics. Our specialty is modifying footwear. If you need custom orthotics, contact us with your specific needs and we can forward your request to a custom orthotics lab on our list.
Can you measure me for braces or lifts, or tell me what I need?
All work we do follows a prescription written by a foot-care professional. We do not have the equipment or staff to measure leg length discrepancies. We do not diagnose or prescribe.
Can I get a detailed receipt for ICBC, WCB, insurance, income tax or a health plan?
Our standard work order and proof of payment is sufficient in most cases. If you need a more detailed invoice, please let us know and we will be glad to accommodate.
Do I need a prescription for orthopedic footwear modifications?
Yes. If you are a first-time Northopedic client, you need to bring a prescription from a foot-care professional. Once you are in our system, this is no longer needed unless your needs have changed.
